FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASEMontreal October 25, 2001 Hans Hofmann - Original Lightprints Referring to these images in her Whitney Museum catalog of Hofmann's 1990 retrospective, Cynthia Goodman states: "Hofmann, who rarely ventured into the realm of printmaking, translated a group of portrait heads, including Student with Spectacles (Hofmann no.13xx) into a series of prints using a process called Lichtdruke." Images from the Mediterranean resort of St. Tropez, where his classes were held during the summers of 1928 - 1929, are also included in this collection . The prints were made using a process where the original drawings are placed directly on top of light sensitive paper. When the light penetrates the onion skin paper, the image of the drawing emerges on the paper below. This
exhibition is open from October 17, 2001 and will continue to the end
of December, 2001. |
